There are thousands of freelance writing jobs available both
online and off. If you have the desire to work either full-time
or part-time as a freelance writer and would like to be paid for
your writing there are a number of ways you can do it.
Associated
Content is a business online that pays freelance
writers both up front payment as performance payments
based on the number of times your article, slideshow, audio, or
video is viewed. Writing for Associated Content the writers can
submit exclusive (has not been published before and will not be
published any place but on Associated Content) or non-exclusive
(has not been published elsewhere but you can publish other
places in the future).
Associated Content is a great company for experienced freelance
writers or beginning writers. You can write on topics
you select or specific articles they request. Associated
Content pays via PayPal with no minimum payout for upfront
payment. You must be 18 years of age and a US citizen to be
eligible for both upfront and performance payments. Non US
citizens are only eligible for performance payments.
Helium is very much like Associated
Content with 3 exceptions. Helium provides titles to write to
although if a writer as a suggested title it can be submitted.
Helium also has a minimum payout of $25 dollars but also pays
through PayPal. The third difference is Helium includes a rating
system where other freelance writers in the community rate
the articles within a topic, comparing one article to another. As
a freelance writer for Helium you will also be
able to rate other writers work.
Other ways to earn from your freelance writing on Helium are the
Marketplace where clients request particular articles to be
written for them and the writing contests. Another feature of
Helium is you can donate your earnings from any
article you write to charities supported by Helium. A great way
to get the most out of your writing work is to join both
Associated Content and Helium, write for a title on Helium but
submit it non-exclusive to Associated
Content first, wait a few weeks, and then submit to Helium and get paid
by them.
The last freelance writing site that is highly
recommended is myLot. Unlike Associated
Content and Helium myLot is a
discussion forum that pays members for posting quality
discussions, responding to other members discussions,
uploading photos, as well as tasks which pay for
various writing jobs. myLot is fun and
easy but a great opportunity for freelance writers to challenge
yourself or beginners to get their feet wet in the freelance
writing world. Open to writers around the world myLot pays
through PayPal monthly when earnings reach $10.
Some may not think that myLot is not a
serious writing job but in fact it is. Writers
can write on any topic but the trick is to write quality, whether
a paragraph or a full article so that other members will be
encouraged and drawn to respond. In the same manner your
responsive should be related to the discussion and you can earn
more for responses that earn the best response on a
discussion.
A word of warning for freelance writers: at NO time should you be
asked to pay for your work to be published. The three programs
mentioned here are only a few of the many other freelance writing
opportunities online but there are also many scams
that will request payment to join DONT DO IT, you
can find plenty of places to write that will pay you. Associated
Content, Helium,
and myLot
NEVER charge you the writer for writing for them. They pay you to
write.
If your plan or dream is to work as a freelance writer off-line a
must have (besides your typewriter) is the Writers
Market book. The Writers Market provides beginner
writers and professional writers the information needed to get
published. Not only does Writers Market provide thousands
of markets for freelance writers such as agents, publishers,
newspapers, and magazines to name a few it also includes
submission guidelines and contact information for each market
listed.
