Welcome To Michigan

Hello, my youngest son and I are working together
on this project - introducing you to our home state of Michigan, USA.
Not only where we live but also where we were both born (not just in the same city and state but the same hospital - 36 years apart)! We both feel we have been blessed by The Lord to live in one of the most beautiful states in the USA. And just for the record, I have visited nearly every other state but still feel Michigan is in the top 10 easily.

We'll get the "boring" information out of the way first and then we would like you to join us on a pictorial tour of Michigan.

Capital: Lansing
State Flower: Apple Blossom
State Bird: Robin
Settled: 1650
Statehood: January 26, 1837; the 26th state.
Size: 58,216 sq. mi.
Origin of Name: From Indian word meaning "large lake," or "big water"
Nickname: Water-Winter Wonderland; also Wolverine State, Automobile State
State Motto: Si quaeris peninsulam amoeman, circumspice
(If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you).
State Song: Michigan, My Michigan ( lyrics)

Having lived in several different states myself, one of my favorite things about Michigan is the changing weather, don't worry about getting bored with that - it changes before you have a chance to get tired of it. The four seasons shine in our great state, spring, summer, fall, and winter all have much to offer in the way of activities also.
Just a few of the wonderful things to see in Michigan are the Great Lakes (Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, and Lake Erie), The Mackinac Bridge, the Straits of Mackinac, and Mackinac Island. You might recognize Mackinac Island from the movie "Somewhere in Time" staring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. You'll also want to visit Greenfield Village where you can visit the pasts of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison.

If you don't know, Michigan is actually made up of 2 peninsulas -
the Upper and the Lower (which is shaped like a mitten)
